More information

Pickleball for Parkinson’s is a research study conducted by Oregon State University - Cascades Doctorate of Physical Therapy students lead by Dr. Carol-Ann Nelson and Dr. Amy Briley from Destination Rehab Neurologic Physical Therapy. Our aim is to determine if playing pickleball is beneficial to people with Parkinson’s quality of life and multidirectional stepping.

Your participation is completely voluntary. We ask that if you decide to participate in the program, you commit to the entirety of the 8 week session meetings, and 2 additional meetings for baseline and post-study outcomes.

Participants will meet on Monday afternoons between 2-4 pm at the Pickleball Zone in Bend. All pickleball equipment and training will be FREE and provided by the study organizers. Each session will have 4-8 players, and will consist of warmup, pickleball instruction and skills practice, gameplay, and cool down. Participants with all levels of experience are welcome.

Eligibility Requirements

All participants must have a Parkinson’s diagnosis and be able to walk around their home without using any assistance (Eg. cane, walker). All personal information will be de-identified at the end of the session, and the findings from this study may be presented at Physical Therapy conferences including the American College of Sports Medicine conference or other OSU-Cascades DPT program presentations.

You may only participate in one session.
